It is with a heavy heart the Boston Breakers Professional Team will not be operating in 2018.
The club would like to thank all of the many players, coaches and office staff that have helped build the Breakers and keep this amazing organization in operation across four leagues (WUSA, WPS, WPSL Elite and NWSL).
“Discussions with an active buyer who had signed a letter of intent were ongoing since November of 2017. Said Boston Breakers Managing Partner, Michael Stoller. “Unfortunately, due to certain factors that process was halted on short notice. Since that point a number of potential buyers were spoken with, but nothing could be completed within the short timeline”
The club owes a huge thank you to our fans for supporting our mission to provide soccer across Massachusetts at all levels and continually supporting the club season after season from near and far. Amazing to think the club still had fans following us from when the club first started in WUSA, to new young fans that aspire to be a professional soccer player one day in the future. Keep that dream going, you will succeed!
“Lee and his staff were ready to operate in 2018” said Stoller. “We had a new stadium planned with an agreement in hand, along with making improvements all across the board. Matt had made significant improvements to the team; we were all very excited about the squad heading into 2018”
The club asks you to continue to support the amazing women who play in the NWSL. The talent level, commitment and dedication to achieve success for not only their clubs, but to grow the league, the game and aspire young girls to one day be a professional soccer player is at a level nobody can begin to fully appreciate.
The professional team not participating in the NWSL does not impact the Boston Breakers Academy and dedication to developing grassroots soccer across the state. The Academy program will continue as normal in partnership with NEFC.
The club is deeply humbled of everyone’s support and appeals to #savethebreakers. We thank you and love you all. Breakers Family forever!
