The last time these two sides met at Yurcak Field, the Orlando Pride dominated the possession 66% to 44%. Unfortunately for the visiting side, two transition goals by Sky Blue FC were enough to defeat the Orlando Pride 2-1. Now back for round two, here is what the Orlando Pride must do to beat Sky Blue FC. GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
1. STOP SAM KERR
The Australian international has been lights out over the last two months, and currently sits tied for the golden boot award with Marta. While Kerr is on the stat sheet for 4 goals and 3 assists, she has also drawn multiple penalties that teammate Sarah Killion has hammered home from the spot. What’s the lesson here? Keep the ball away from Sam Kerr.
2. MARK RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ TOUCH TIGHT IN THE BOX
The Costa Rican international has scored three goals for Sky Blue this year, and they have all come inside the box. Rodriguez has a nose for the goal, continuously finding herself in the right place at the right time. Give her an inch in the box at your own peril.
3. KEEP THE BALL MOVING
The Orlando Pride thrive when they keep the ball moving with short passes in the midfield, and a few long strikes to change the point of attack. The Pride made a lot of unforced errors and turned the ball over quite a bit in their loss against Houston this past Sunday. Keep it moving!
4. NO MENTAL ERRORS ON DEFENSE
The Orlando Pride are good for at least 2-3 mental lapses per game on the defensive side of the ball. In the NWSL, teams only need a good look or two to make you pay (see the Pride’s last result against Sky Blue). Keep you head in the game and the ball far away from the back of the Bledsoe’s net.
