WOSO Wednesdays: Orlando Pride By The Numbers

Wanna know how the Orlando Pride will do this season?  Watch out for these 5 numbers from Michelle Stile at Women's Soccer Weekly!

36 Total Points Earned

In a season with more than 20 games, 36 points will be a must! The only team that has ever managed to make the playoffs with less than 36 points in a 22-24 game season is the Washington Spirit (35) who got in on a tie breaker.

24 Points at Home

The Orlando organization spent millions of dollars to design a LOUD stadium. The fans need to show up. If they do, the Pride have no excuse for missing the playoffs. (Plus, with 5 mid-day games against northern teams, the high paced Orlando side should have an extra gear comparatively).

7 Different Goal Scorers

This past season, only 6 Orlando Pride players scored (and one of them was traded halfway through the year).  If the Pride are going to make it to October, they need to get production from a few more players than the usual suspects of Kristen Edmonds, Marta, Alex Morgan, Jasmyne Spencer, and Chioma Ubogagu. Keep a look out for the tall defenders to be more dangerous on set pieces, and the rookies to have an impact.

5 Shutouts

Historically, Ashlyn Harris has not been a clean sheet keeper. In roughly 60 appearances, Harris has only registered 10 shutouts. Few teams have made it to the playoffs without a team total of 5 shutouts (Harris’ Washington Spirit team, for example). Here’s hoping for a career year!

3 Ties

No team has ever made the playoffs without earning at least three draws in the regular season. Last year, the Orlando Pride only registered 1 tie for the entire season. While Ws are most important, getting a result is vital. Last season the Pride lost 9 games by 1 goal.

I will make this prediction. If, when the final whistle blows on the Pride’s regular season they have reached at least 3 of these 5 milestones, the Pride will be moving on to the NWSL playoffs
