Monica Alves to Represent Brazil at 2016 Olympic Games

Orlando Pride defender Monica has been named to Brazil’s 18-player roster for the 2016 Rio Olympics, making her the fifth Pride player to be officially selected to compete in the Games.

The host country begins group play on August 3 against the China, facing the Group E opponent at 3 p.m. ET in Rio de Janeiro.

Monica has made 11 appearances for the Pride this season, all of them starts, and has shown her versatility playing at both center back and holding midfield.

Monica joins teammates Alex Morgan (USA), Josée Bélanger (Canada), Steph Catley (Australia) and Laura Alleway (Australia) as internationals named to their nation’s 18-player roster. Midfielder Kaylyn Kyle (Canada) and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris (USA) were both selected as alternates for the Olympics.
