Let’s talk real quick about this weekend’s pre-season game for Orlando City SC, because it got me so pumped for the upcoming NWSL season. The game started off a little shaky, as Club Bahia scored within the first minute of the game. Orlando worked on getting their defense back together, as I realized I was going to need beer to calm my nerves. I went and found the biggest can I could get!
When I got back, I could tell that Orlando City SC had got their momentum back! It finally paid off in the 12th minute, when Seb Hines (#3) tied up the game with an assist from Kaka (#10). The defense was looking much better and our offensive players were getting lots of opportunities to score. Almost the entire first half consisted of lots of good opportunities for Orlando City SC to make a goal, but our guys just could not finish!
Kaka had a great chance for an easy goal in the 35th minute and Shea (#20) had a chance too, at the 36th. Although they didn’t make either shot, Orlando was pressuring the opposing team’s defense, so much that it caused them to make reckless mistakes. Mistakes that played to our Lion’s advantage, in the second half!
Halftime allowed the Lions to collect themselves as a team and finish those set-plays effectively. After nervously chugging my beer, I was anticipating an Orlando goal at any minute. We had possession of the ball the majority of the second half, we were making better passes, and we were opening up the sides and setting up plays. The goal came at the 58th minute when Kaka made a beautiful assist to Hines, who executed the goal with a well-placed header. From then on, the Lions found their pace and the goals kept coming! At the 72nd minute, Seb Hines scored AGAIN!!! Another assist from the Captain, Kaka, to bring the score to 3-1; this was Hines’ first hat-trick of his career! I’m looking for bigger thing from Seb this season! Then at the 78th minute, Ribeiro (#15) sends a rocket from inside the box that puts us at 4-1. Hines is at it again! He brings us to 5-1 at the 86th minute with another header assisted by Kaka. Finally, a mistake from a defensive player in Club Bahia, that is picked up by Cerén (#17) who chips it perfectly over the goalie, ending our game with a massive win of 6-1!!
Kaka and Hines were killing it! Kaka finished up the game up with 4 assists and Hines with 4 goals of his own. Our guys gave us a glimpse of what this season is going to shape up to be. I have no doubt that the Orlando Pride will live up to the Orlando style of play, which is to win with skill and pride!
Let’s go Orlando! Let’s score!
